Jesse Lingard hails Romelu Lukaku’s superb start at Manchester United

Jesse Lingard has heaped praise on the way Romelu Lukaku has hit the ground running at Manchester United this season.

The Belgian arrived for £75m from Everton back in July and claimed three goals over pre-season, alongside scoring in the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid.

And he has been an effervescent force in the Premier League, claiming four goals in as many games whilst scoring on his Champions League debut against FC Basel.

But Lingard, when asked about his teammates’s rip-roaring start to life at Old Trafford, has pointed out that this should serve as no surprise.

“I think you’ve seen last year what he’s capable of and what he did for Everton – he scored a lot of goals – and now he’s carrying that form on which is great for us,” he said.

“He holds the ball up well, he runs in behind which gives the guy on the ball another option. He’s very strong in the box, he’s very good with his head, so he gives a lot of options for the man on the ball.

“I think Rom’s a really nice guy, he’s got his feet on the ground and he doesn’t let anything faze him.”

The number one thing on every supporter’s list over the summer would have been a proven Premier League goalscorer – somebody who relishes the prospect of taking apart lesser sides – and there aren’t many more established in that department than Lukaku.

His approach is geared to the Premier League to an almost perfect degree: powerful, composed, devastatingly quick, blessed with that innate poacher’s instinct, capable of lashing home goals from every angle – headers, scuffed shots, rebounds, one-one-ones. Everything. The man has been doing it in this division for five years, and supporters will be desperate to see it continue.
