Mourinho adds youngsters O’Hara and Mitchell to Man United’s Champions League squad

Goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara and left-back Demi Mitchell have been added to Manchester United’s UEFA Champions League squad by manager José Mourinho.

The pair are on Man United’s B List for the tournament, where under-21 players who have played for the club for two uninterrupted years since their 15th birthday can be included outside of the regular 25-man squad. Marcus Rashford is also on the B List, alongside Axel Tuanzebe, Joel Pereira, and Scott McTominay.

20-year-old Mitchell made his debut and impressed, albeit in a comfortable setting, United beating Crystal Palace 2-0 in the final game of the 2016/17 Premier League season. The Englishman earned a call-up to England’s under-20s for the victorious Toulon Tournament campaign on the back of that.

He then traveled with United’s first team squad on the pre-season tour of the USA, but has not yet played again competitively for the Reds.

Kieran O’Hara is still waiting for his debut, but the 21-year-old has been experiencing the trials and tribulations of the first team squad for some time now.

O’Hara was third choice goalkeeper for much of last season, training with David de Gea and Sergio Romero and traveling with the side in the UEFA Europa League.

He was on the bench as an unused substitute while Mitchell made his debut against Palace.

The pair are unlikely to see much game time in Europe’s elite competition, but if either are fortunate to be in a traveling to squad, they’ll benefit greatly from the experience.
