Paris Saint Germain and Belgium right back Thomas Meunier has prompted speculation surrounding a future move to Manchester United after admitting he was a “a fan” of the club.
The Belgian joined the Ligue 1 side in 2016 after spending five seasons with Club Bruges and enjoyed a strong opening campaign under Unai Emery, making 36 appearances in total.
Jose Mourinho had expressed interest in securing a right back over the summer and targeted PSG right back Serge Aurier, only for the Ivorian to end up at Tottenham Hotspur instead.
And when asked about which team he planned to use on FIFA 18, Meunier responded: “Manchester. The real one, Man United. Because I’ve always been a fan.”
The 25-year-old is well positioned to enjoy a superb season at PSG. He will alternate with – and learn from – Dani Alves at right back and watch from a close distance as Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Edison Cavani and Julian Draxler combine to create a truly devastating attacking dynamic over the next eight months.
But he should, as a United fan (or at least admirer), take note of Mourinho’s growing need to find somebody capable of sharing the load with Antonio Valencia, now 32, and eventually taking over the duties of first choice right back at Old Trafford in the coming years.
