Ander Herrera speaks out about David de Gea’s future at Manchester United

Ander Herrera has spoken out about David de Gea‘s future at Manchester United, noting that his teammate wants to be a legend at the club.

The 26-year-old came moments away from joining Real Madrid back in the summer of 2015, only for the transfer to fall through amid a series of documentation issues between the two clubs.

He has since been an invaluable presence between the sticks and earned special praise from Jose Mourinho following his masterful display during Man United’s 4-0 win over Everton.

And Herrera, speaking on the subject of De Gea, sent a message to Madrid by insisting that the Spaniard wanted to establish himself as a club legend at Old Trafford.

De Gea hasn’t matched Peter Schmeichel or Edwin van der Saar in terms of longevity and permanence just yet, but no questions should surround his ability in comparison to the pair.

The Mourinho era has seemingly coincided with a backgrounding of De Gea’s importance; supporters will be glad to see the days of their side desperately relying on the 26-year-old to get them out of trouble fast becoming a thing of the past.

But make no mistake: that aura of calm and unquestionable brilliance he brings between the sticks has a crucial impact on the rest of this United side, and supporters will just hope Madrid don’t come knocking again.
