Manchester United fans have expressed their delight at seeing Luke Shaw return to action after four months on the sidelines during their side’s 4-1 win over Burton Albion in the League Cup.
The 21-year-old missed the crescendo of last season having sustained ankle ligament damage against Swansea City in late April.
He was introduced at half time, with Man United already three goals ahead, and produced a composed display at left wing back, causing Burton’s right hand side a problem or two with a number of direct runs.
And supporters were notably pleased to see Shaw back on the pitch after yet another prolonged period on the sidelines.
Delighted Shaw got a run out tonight
When he injured his foot in April, the exit door seemed nigh
Still has potential to be a great LB #MUFC

This was far from a perfect performance from the Englishman. You could tell he was rusty and lacking confidence; Burton’s late goal was only made possible by his poor positioning.
But there was also enough there to suggest that Shaw, with enough game time under his belt, could provide a solution to Jose Mourinho’s left back troubles. The desire to pour forward alone was a refreshing contrast to what Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind have offered so far this season, and he could have claimed his first ever United goal if it wasn’t for a very narrow offside decision.
Supporters will just hope Mourinho gives him the minutes he needs to get back up to full speed over the next few weeks.
