Phil Jones was hailed as one of the best players on the pitch by Manchester United fans in the Reds’ 1-0 victory against Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
The English centre-back has started the season in brilliant form alongside Ivorian defender Eric Bailly, forming a solid partnership.
Jones and Bailly were kept busy as Man United sat back for large parts of the game at St. Mary’s.

Whisper it quietly but Phil Jones looking very good again. Thankfully that Stoke game might have just been a blip.

Other than the mistake against Stoke, Phil Jones has been immense so far this season.

Jones’ United career has been plagued by injuries. While he’s not been injured though, most United fans would admit the Englishman can be very impressive.
His time at Old Trafford started with Sir Alex Ferguson, perhaps drunkenly, telling reporters he had the potential to be one of United’s greatest ever players. Jones was even compared to the great Duncan Edwards.
He hasn’t fulfilled that potential, but his beginning to the season has been phenomenal, and if he can stay injury free, a caveat that’s been mentioned too many times in Jones’ career, he’ll cement himself as United’s first choice centre-back.
