Manchester United target Andre Gomes pushing for January exit from Barcelona – report

Barcelona midfielder and Manchester United target will seek a January move away from the Nou Camp after growing frustrated over a lack of game time under manager Ernesto Valverde, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho had pin-pointed Gomes as a potential option during his first summer as Man United boss but the Portuguese decided to join Barcelona instead.

Speculation of a potential bid from United emerged once again over the summer following a difficult opening campaign under Luis Enrique and Valverde’s decision to sign Paulinho and use Sergi Roberto as a midfielder.

And according to Spanish media outlet Don Balon (via Calcio Mercato), Gomes will look to secure a move away over the summer in order to place himself in contention to play at next year’s World Cup in Russia.

You can hardly blame Gomes for looking towards the exit door. He is, by all accounts, a supremely talented footballer: shrewd in tight spaces, positionally astute, capable of breaking through the lines and picking out passes from deep.

But he isn’t receiving the minutes he needs to enmesh himself into Barcelona’s system. He has only made one start this season and faces an uphill struggle in trying to unseat the likes of Andres Iniesta, Paulinho, Sergio Busquets, Roberto and Ivan Rakitic in the middle.

A move elsewhere only seems logical, and Mourinho may be tempted to offer his follow countryman a lifeline.
