Manchester United without Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick vs CSKA Moscow

Michael Carrick, Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini will all be missing for Manchester United on Wednesday night against CSKA Moscow.

The absence of all three leaves Jose Mourinho with a bit of a crisis as to who will play in midfield but as Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera are the only fit, senior central midfielders, it looks like both will start.

I always said that United’s midfield was our weakest area in terms of depth. Even with just Pogba missing, our quality diminished massively because it’s impossible to replace a player like him but both Fellaini and Carrick being unavailable compounds the problem.

It would have been fantastic if United got Renato Sanches on loan to give us more strength in depth in that area but he decided to join Swansea City on loan instead. So, we’re left without very few options on Wednesday.

Midfield will be where the game is won or lost against CSKA Moscow because if United can maintain possession and control the tempo, then we should be in cruise control. By the sounds of it, Matic and Herrera will be tasked to do just that.
