Gary Neville: Jose Mourinho should sign Antoine Griezmann at Man United

Manchester United’s former captain Gary Neville believes Jose Mourinho should target Antoine Griezmann as the club’s next buy to add flair to the current squad.

In a team already boasting the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata, Neville believes there’s still room for one more.

Griezmann was the subject of much speculation during the summer transfer window with even the player himself admitting that a move to Old Trafford was quite likely.

However, it appeared like the player chose to remain loyal to his club who are currently under a transfer ban. With that soon to be removed, Gary thinks his former club should go back in for the Frenchman.

“We can get a lot better. I’d like to see one more flair player in the team,” Neville told Stretty News TV.

“I’d like to see a winger who can beat a man and get everyone on the edge of their seat.

“Having been in Spain for four months, I love Griezmann. I would love to see Griezmann at United. He’s quick, he’s inventive, he can beat players [and] he can score goals.”

Antoine’s current stats this season read at three goals and one assist across the La Liga and Champions League competitions; a decent record but surprisingly less impressive than Rashford, Lukaku or Martial’s contributions so far to the team.

While the three Red Devils have been dazzling to say the least, there’s certainly room in the squad for Griezmann, according to manager anyway. Mourinho was public in his desire to sign a winger in the previous summer transfer window and it’s unlikely that urge would’ve faded away.

Capable of playing on the flanks, behind the striker or up top himself, Antoine gives Jose a variety of options tactically, allowing the manager the flexibility he craves so deeply.

The Red Devils have obviously missed some top quality out on the flanks and the Frenchman would add competition to positions that can only aide the club. The question is- will Atletico Madrid sell in January?
