Jose Mourinho provides squad injury update ahead of Crystal Palace clash

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that both Michael Carrick and Phil Jones will be unavailable for Manchester United’s clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Carrick, Jones, Marouane Fellaini and Antonio Valencia didn’t travel with the first team squad that came away from Moscow with a 4-1 win over CSKA on Wednesday.

The boss confirmed after the game that Carrick would certainly miss out and added that Jones, currently nursing an ankle injury, was a major doubt.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the contest with Roy Hodgson’s side, Mourinho revealed that the pair would definitely miss out.

“They are out,” he said. “They were out [on Wednesday] and tomorrow some [players] will be out [too].

“We have to train and make decisions after training but I hope some of the players that couldn’t play in Moscow maybe not all of them but hopefully some can recover.

“What I’m saying is that from all the injuries we had, I hope that I can have some players available for tomorrow.”

Mourinho added that Anthony Martial, who limped off during the win in Moscow, would be available for selection on Saturday.

The only player to not receive a mention was Fellaini, whose readiness for the clash with Palace appears to be in the balance, along with that of Antonio Valencia.

United are clearly feeling the effects of a 22 day period consisting of seven games and supporters will just hope that Mourinho has a greater wealth of options to call upon following the international break.
