Man United star speaks out about not getting minutes under Jose Mourinho

Versatile defender Matteo Darmian, while away on international duty, has spoken about his decision to come to Manchester United.

The Italian full-back didn’t make the biggest splash when he arrived at Old Trafford but fans were happy to have a defender capable of fulfilling his duties.

After witnessing Antonio Valencia initially struggle to adapt to the right-back position, it made sense to invest in a defender who was more responsible in that regard.

Hardly known for his attacking forays forward, Darmian was meant to bring to United a defensive sense of security and a no nonsense approach to things.

Matteo hasn’t been a regular first teamer since his arrival, being in and out of the starting XI and often being used as a utility man.

According to Goal he said: “I made a choice [to come to Manchester United] and I don’t regret it. Of course it’s normal that any player wants to play as much as possible.

I work hard every week and I’ll keep doing it. I don’t always watch Italian football and I don’t know what will happen in the future, maybe there will be a chance to come back one day.”

While he doesn’t outrightly invite any offers from clubs, Jose Mourinho may be concerned with the Italian seemingly unwilling to express loyalty to the club.

Darmian hasn’t ever expressed disloyalty previously but surely fans hope that he’d rather fight for his first team place than leave the club altogether.

Since his arrival he’s proven a useful player and if he puts together a decent run of form he may eventually oust Valencia from the starting XI.

Matteo may also use his versatility to his advantage and secure the left-back spot instead with several players vying for it rather unsuccessfully so far.
