Eric Bailly explains why he’s confident under Jose Mourinho this season

Eric Bailly has explained why he’s confident of succeeding at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho, pointing towards the manager’s demand for optimal concentration at the back.

The Ivorian has enjoyed a scintillating start to the 2017/18 campaign alongside Phil Jones, picking up six clean sheets from seven Premier League games.

And Bailly, in an interview with MUTV, was quick to point towards how Mourinho’s emphasis on refining the tactical aspect of defending has motivated him to improve over the last year.

“For me, the aspect that was very important and where I see improvements – and can improve even more, to be honest – is the tactics, as well as the high level of concentration that’s required,” he said.

“For a young defender it’s very important and with this manager I’m positive about the future.”

No true champion, as they say, can ever be truly content with what they have. And Mourinho is indeed the epitome of that mindset.

His team can play brilliantly, conceding hardly any chances, and still have plenty to work on in training the next day. This is why Mourinho’s back lines have always been so consistently solid: the 54-year-old sees areas that can be improved that others either ignore or simply don’t recognise.

Mixing that tactical nous with Bailly’s sheer power will, no doubt, help him morph into an indispensable presence at the back over the next few years.
