Manager Arsene Wenger is already searching for Alexis’s successor and wants a player who can play both centrally and out wide, including up front as a striker.
Martial provides that currently for Man United but has been predominantly played on the left flank for the last two seasons.
Alexis’ contract runs out this summer and the Chilean forward is expected to leave, with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City both heavily linked.
Jose Mourinho has very rarely used Martial as a central striker, and has given the Frenchman just * minutes this season.
Martial’s output in those limited minutes has been phenomenal, earning him United’s September Player of the Month award. The 21-year-old has six goals and six appearances in just nine appearances.
Yet despite that, Marcus Rashford, 19, is still often selected over him. Martial appears to be happy at United, being in some of the best form of his life and seemingly sorting his off-field issues that plagued him last season.
La Liga side FC Barcelona are also reportedly interested in Martial, so say Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.
Martial cannot be allowed to leave Old Trafford. Still just 21, the young striker is an incredible talent, one of the best in Europe, and if it requires playing him more regularly to keep him at the club, Jose Mourinho must fulfil his wishes.
He was requested to work harder in training and play better last season by Mourinho, and Martial has duly delivered. Now he must be kept at the club for as long as possible given his talent.
