Jurgen Klopp hails Manchester United’s formidable defence after 0-0 draw at Anfield

Jurgen Klopp hailed the solidity of Manchester United after Liverpool failed to break down the Reds on Saturday in a 0-0 draw at Anfield.

The German boss claimed that even FC Barcelona, one of the best attacking outfits in Europe, would struggle to break down Man United.

Klopp claimed that United boss Jose Mourinho came to Anfield looking for a draw, though the Portuguese denied that was the case in his post-match interviews.

United managed to stop Liverpool from creating many chances and defend those that came very well.

“You cannot expect that we create 20 chances against Manchester United. It’s simply not possible. Barcelona, on their best day would not do it,” Klopp told reporters in his post-match press conference on Saturday afternoon.

“We will see – United will not lose a lot of games in this season.”

It’s a rather backhanded compliment given that Klopp has criticised Mourinho and United’s style of play. However, it’s telling that Liverpool, one of the league’s better attacking set-ups, struggled significantly against United.

While some United fans were disappointed with how little Mourinho made his side go for it at Anfield, the Portuguese did come away with a result due to the defensive set-up in place.

United had just 38% of possession but restricted Liverpool’s chances fantastically. If United’s best attacking players could have finished their small number of chances or provided some individual magic, pundits and fans would be hailing a Mourinho masterclass.
