Jurgen Klopp: Manchester United player for a single point

by Marwan Harraz

The Red Devils travelled across to Anfield in the hopes of keeping up their title challenge alive and it’s fair to say they did so with a draw.

Jose Mourinho opted for the same counter-attacking performance he went for last season and was keen to hit Liverpool on the break.

The Reds dominated possession and played with intensity but failed to break down a stubborn Manchester United and David de Gea.

United kept a good shape throughout the 90 minutes and frustrated the home team, silencing the famous stadium for the majority of the game.

Jurgen Klopp was quick to blame his team’s shortcomings on Jose Mourinho’s tactics and will certainly be irritated with his player’s finishing.

Speaking to Sky Sports he said: “I think the performance was worth three points. We were the better side.

“I think Man United came here for the point and they got it. We wanted three points and didn’t get it.

“I’m sure if we played like this, you could not do this at Liverpool. Obviously for Man United it is OK.

“It’s quite difficult when a top-class team like Man United has that defensive approach. You’re not going to get 20 chances. But we had enough, a big one in the first half, and a penalty I feel, we were unlucky.”

Despite Klopp’s deflection, Liverpool fans will definitely start to become anxious with their club’s inconsistent start to the season.

United’s rivals were languishing in the Europa League spots in the table and after this round of Premier League fixtures, may fall further down the ladder.

Mourinho’s men meanwhile, will be disappointed to not heave pressure onto their rivals Manchester City who have the opportunity to create a gap at the top of the league.

Despite all that’s been said and done, a draw is the fair result in a game where both teams failed to convert their only chances of the game.
