The Argentine suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury during the 2-1 win over Anderlecht back in April and has been training with the first team squad over the last month, but Jose Mourinho has noted he won’t return until December.
Shaw, on the other hand, has only featured once for Man United this season, coming on as a second half substitute against Burton Albion, and completed 90 minutes for the reserves over the weekend.
Nevertheless, the pair have been named in the squad that will fly to Portugal for their clash with Benfica at the Estadio da Luz.
Eric Bailly, who picked up a groin injury over the international break, was not spotted with the first team squad.
Rojo’s inclusion is a strange one because, with still a month left of his rehabilitation process, there appears to be no chance of him featuring. Nevertheless, his presence in the first team can only be seen as a positive thing.
As for Shaw, he will need to grasp the opportunity if it comes this way after failing to kick on under Mourinho following his appearance against Burton.
