Timo Werner dreamt of Manchester United as a small boy

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner has confessed that he used to dream about Manchester United as a small boy.

The German striker is touted as one of the country’s next generation of top players as the nation tries to win back to back World Cup trophies.

Germany failed to compliment their World Cup win back in 2014 with a European Championship in 2016 despite being favourites for the competition.

Timo was one of the players later introduced to the senior squad in the hopes of freshening things up and has done well on the international stage.

Club wise however, it appears the Werner has other plans rather than remaining loyal to RB Leipzig, who performed admirably in the Bundesliga.

According to Talk Sport he said to Sky: “As a small boy, you always dream of the huge clubs. In earlier days, it was Manchester United.

“Under Sir Alex Ferguson, they always had great players, they always won. As a small boy, you always prefer the teams which are winning.

“That’s something you can easily forget, especially when everything is going well. You see how you develop, that you play in the German national team – the number one, the world champion.

“Then you start to dream of perhaps playing somewhere else sometime.”

The young forward had been previously linked with a move to Liverpool but it’s unlikely he’d be well received at Anfield after his recent comments.

Werner may also be pushing for a new contract by admitting his ‘dream’ to play for the Red Devils; a move many players have successfully tried in order to get a pay rise.

Should his comments be truthful though, it’s unlikely Jose Mourinho would make a move for the talented 21 year old.

With Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in his ranks and youthful strikers Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial competing to lead the line, it’s tough to see where Timo would fit in.

Unless Mourinho sees both Rashford and Martial as left wingers then there’s no real need to invest in a player who Leipzig will definitely not sell for cheap.
