Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann may finally make his move to Manchester United in the summer in light of recent circumstances.
According to ESPN the Frenchman’s £89million release clause comes into effect after the season ends and it appears that Jose Mourinho is ready to trigger it.
Should that happen then the Spanish side will be unable to refuse the Red Devils’ offer and Griezmann will be allowed to talk to the club.
After the prolific striker claimed he was close to a move to United last summer and it seems the move may finally happen.
Antoine opted to remain loyal to Madrid after the club’s transfer ban but with that saga over, he will no longer feel as though he is betraying his team.
Atletico will be allowed to replace the goalscoring winger should he make the move and are apparently targeting PSG’s Edison Cavani.
Meanwhile, Manchester United currently have Romelu Lukaku as the only fit and available striker and perhaps Mourinho feels he needs to invest further in his team’s attack.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is yet to return from his injury and is not expected to remain at Old Trafford beyond the summer anyways.
Whether the Portuguese tactician sees the pair’s future out on the flanks instead of leading the line is yet to be seen but with Griezmann among his ranks, he’ll have tactical flexibility and options. As fans know, Mourinho loves his options.
