Leander Dendoncker makes it clear he wants to join Manchester United next summer

Anderlecht midfielder Leander Dendoncker has made it clear that he wants to join Manchester United after his move to Old Trafford fell through last summer.

The 22-year-old’s agent revealed over the summer that his client wanted a move away and reports suggested that Man United could have secured his services for around £30m.

And while no such move ever materialised, Anderlecht’s sporting director confirmed that the club would sanction a move elsewhere for Dendoncker – clearly frustrated at not being allowed to move whilst his teammate Youri Tielemans went to AS Monaco – once the 2017/18 campaign ends.

And the midfielder, when asked about his future, made it clear that, had things gone his way, he would already be a Man United player.

“If it was as concrete as was being said, if they wanted me at all costs, I’d already be there,” he said. “When you play for Anderlecht and you have the chance to go there, you don’t hesitate, but Anderlecht had their bit to say. Everyone had to agree.”

“For a club to pay what they were asking for, the club needed to be concretely interested. If Anderlecht asked for a lot of money, it’s because they knew it would be difficult, and, at that time of the year, the price was over exaggerated”.

Dendoncker has revealed through these quotes not just a scathing level of discontent at still being consigned to the Belgian league, but also that United did express interest in him over the summer before ultimately singing Nemanja Matic for £40m instead.

Jose Mourinho will want to add some midfield reinforcements over the summer with Michael Carrick set to leave and Marouane Fellaini‘s future still uncertain, and various names have been mentioned over the last few weeks – the most recent being Valencia’s Carlos Soler.

Either way, the Portuguese has somebody in that position who is actively pining for an Old Trafford move, providing him with a perfect option to fall back on if other targets fail to materialise.
