Lee Martin: Scott McTominay was brilliant in Swansea performance

Former Manchester United defender Lee Martin praised Scott McTominay for his performance in the club’s 2-0 win over Swansea in the League Cup.

The Red Devils travelled to the Liberty Stadium in the hopes of getting into the latter stages of the cup competition and cruised to a win against the Welsh side.

McTominay started the game in midfield alongside Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard but did not look amateurish or young at all.

The youngster showed his intelligence on the ball and played with a maturity beyond his age, impressing his manager and fans alike.

Martin was also in awe of Scott’s display and did not hide his feeling on MUTV’s Matchday Review programme.

According to Inside Futbol he said: “He [McTominay] played well tonight. He has set the standard for himself and now he is to keep up that standard.

“He was brilliant tonight – making runs forward and carrying the ball. He’ll be buzzing after that and Tuanzebe as well.

“Both of them played well and both will be looking to play again at some stage, whether that will be on Saturday or the next round.”

The Scottsman is one of the players who featured against Swansea who has come through the club’s academy, much to the delight of fans.

Axel Tuanzebe also started the match and put in an equally impressive performance, playing alongside fellow centre-backs Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof.

Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard started as well to add to the academy’s good name with Lingard in particular securing the brace that helped United through to the quarter finals of the League Cup.

Jose Mourinho believes both McTominay and Tuanzebe can be future Manchester United starters and fans will surely love to see more of the pair.

Scott in particular has a strong opportunity in his hands to try and secure more minutes as Michael Carrick, Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini all struggle with injuries.
