Mauricio Pochettino confirms Harry Kane will miss Manchester United clash

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Harry Kane will miss Saturday’s trip to Manchester United through injury.

The Englishman, who scored in the 2-1 win over Jose Mourinho’s men back in May, wasn’t part of the squad that faced West Ham United in the League Cup in midweek.

Kane has been in scintillating form in recent weeks, clocking an impressive total of 13 goals in his last 11 games for the North London side.

But Pochettino, speaking ahead of the game, noted that it was “impossible” for Kane to feature at Old Trafford after picking up a hamstring injury.

This is massive for United. Nobody in the Premier League, with the exception of Romelu Lukaku, can rival the ruthless regularity with which the Englishman finds the net and spearheads fast, organised attacking movements.

But the worst thing United could do, in response, is let complacency drip into their system. And while the whole incident was absurdly childish, Pochettino’s men will be determined to show Pep Guardiola and the watching world that they aren’t the ‘Harry Kane team’ against a side lying above them in the table.

Conversely, this should be Mourinho’s cue to attack: Sadio Mane’s injury should have precipitated a shift in momentum for the clash at Anfield but it didn’t, and supporters will be desperate to see their side, at home for the first time this month, take advantage of weakened Spurs outfit on Saturday.
