Jose Mourinho was delighted with the attitude of his Manchester United players in a 1–0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Portuguese had slated his own team’s attitude in a shock 2–1 defeat to Huddersfield Town last weekend in the Premier League, but heaped praise on them on Saturday afternoon after a vital win.
Anthony Martial came off the bench to score and 81st-minute winner for United, which could be hugely important in the Premier League title race, with a trip to champions Chelsea coming up next weekend.
“I think we all feel that every match, that’s why I was disappointed at Huddersfield, because it looks like in that match we didn’t know the responsibility, we didn’t know the ambition, we didn’t know that every point is a precious point,” Mourinho said to Sky Sports.
“Today, if we drew, or even if in the last minute we concede a goal and we lose, I would never ever be against the players because from minute one, every ball was like the last ball of their careers.
“I’m really happy with them, and obviously with the result.”
It’s a fantastic win for United, and one they achieved by being proactive, asserting themselves on their opposition at Old Trafford, and competing aggressively for every ball, but not overstepping the line.
The Reds’ 100% home record remains and Saturday’s cleansheet means they are the only team in Europe’s top five leagues who are still yet to concede a league goal at home.
