Craig Bellamy has singled out summer signing Nemanja Matic as the reason for why Manchester United now look like a ‘Jose Mourinho’ team.
Matic joined the Reds for around £35 million from premier league champions Chelsea, in a surprise move in the summer transfer window.
The Serb has thus far exceeded expectations Old Trafford, with consistently excellent performances in central midfield.
Speaking about Manchester United, Bellamy said, “it looks like a Mourinho team now with the power they have.”
“Matic, we all knew, was a brilliant signing for them,” he told Sky Sports.
Matic’s presence in midfield has helped a number of things. At the start of the season, his influence allowed Paul Pogba more freedom to roam across the pitch and have a great influence on the game, while Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini has also been allowed the same freedom and benefited hugely.
Both of those players are now injured, and in their absence, Matic has been United’s main midfielder, and has hardly had a rest all season
He has arguably been United’s player of the season so far, and is certainly helping to create a more well-balanced team under Mourinho at Old Trafford.
