Jose Mourinho explains gesture in Manchester United’s 1-0 win against Spurs

Jose Mourinho has explained his ‘ssh’ gesture became after Manchester United finished 1–0 winners against Tottenham Hotspur.

Anthony Martial came off the bench to score an 81st-minute winner for Man United against Spurs on Saturday afternoon Old Trafford, propelling the Reds back into the Premier League title race.

After the final whistle, Mourinho turned to the Sky Sports cameras and gestured.

Questioned about it after the game, Mourinho said, “some people speak too much

“You know, calm down, relax. Relax a little bit.

“Don’t speak too much – speak, speak, speak. You know, relax.”

Mourinho, when asked whether he was talking to journalists who he previously labelled “Einsteins” (know-it-alls), Mourinho admitted he was.

“Yeah, relax a little bit,” he said. “Don’t be so nervous, don’t be so excited. Calm down a little bit.”

Perhaps the United boss is talking about the fickle nature of some football journalists, who overreact at some results or actions. After previously hailing the attacking football of United and their title credentials, many journalists criticised the Reds and ridiculed their status as challengers for the title after Mourinho’s men drew 0-0 at Anfield and suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town last weekend.

Stories about United draw readers, and it’s no surprise that journalists overdramatise things. Mourinho enjoys a tumultuous relationship with the media; sometimes joking and laughing, and other times attacking those in front of him.
