Manchester United cannot afford to fail to win against Chelsea next weekend, according to Phil Neville.
The Reds are back with momentum after Anthony Martial came off the bench to score an 81st-minute winner in a 1-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur.
Yet they’re still five points behind main rivals Manchester City in the title race already, and Neville is of the belief that a win against Chelsea is essential.
“Manchester United’s trip to Chelsea on is a huge game for the Premier League title race,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“We saw what Manchester City did to Chelsea, beating them 1-0 and probably producing one of the best performances we’ve seen in three or four seasons.
“United have to win the game. I don’t think a draw is good enough but I think they are ready to win a game of this magnitude.
“Chelsea have the players to hurt you with Eden Hazard coming back to form. Will Jose look to man-mark him with Ander Herrera? Tactically I think it will be another game where he comes up with a plan to win the game.”
While a win at Stamford Bridge is always unlikely, Neville pointed out that City managed to do it with a slick performance and a stunning strike from Kevin de Bruyne.
United have to match them. The Reds will have to be more proactive in imposing their game on the opposition than they were in this month’s 0-0 draw against Liverpool at Anfield, for which they were much criticised despite getting a valuable point.
