Dimitar Berbatov has backed Anthony Martial to become one of the best players in the world.
The Manchester United forward was in confident form in Tuesday night’s 2-0 win against Portuguese champions Benfica, despite missing a first-half penalty.
He earned that penalty himself with one of a number of amazing runs where he showed wonderful close-control and pace.
“Martial was one of the best players on the pitch this evening,” Berbatov confirmed on BT Sport.
“He’s going to be one of the best.”
Few would deny that Martial has the ability to go on to be one of the world’s best. It will depend on a number of things, including how much gametime he sees.
Primarily this season, Man United manager Jose Mourinho has elected to start with Marcus Rashford on the left wing and bring on Martial as a sub.
On a few occasions, that situation has seen roles reversed, as on Tuesday against Benfica, and Martial will be hoping for more chances from the start.
