Jose Mourinho refuses to provide injury update ahead of Chelsea clash

Jose Mourinho refused to provide an injury update on Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini or Michael Carrick ahead of the clash with Chelsea on Sunday, noting it was too early to confirm whether they would be ready to play or not.

Pogba is nearing a return from a hamstring injury sustained in September, while Fellaini continues to recover from a knee ligament sprain. Carrick was seen training individually ahead of the 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

The 54-year-old has to appear in Spanish court on Friday amid allegations of tax fraud during his time at Real Madrid, which in turn moved the press conference back a day earlier.

And Mourinho, in turn, was unable to confirm whether any injured players would return at Stamford Bridge, noting that the next two days would be important.

We have received quite literally nothing from Mourinho with regards to Pogba or Fellaini – two players United have sorely missed in recent times – over the last few weeks, but you sense that the pair are slowly but surely nearing their return to action.

Playing either of them at Stamford Bridge would be something of a risk given that they still haven’t trained with the first team squad. The Portuguese will, you sense, look to ease them back in following the international break.
