Anthony Martial has revealed he’s enjoying life at Manchester United as he looks to add more goals to his game this season.
Last season was a difficult one for Martial, playing less than in previous years amid speculation that his relationship with Man United manager Jose Mourinho had broken down.
Instead, it appears that Mourinho simply wanted more from Martial, in terms of both work ethic and performances. Now Martial is producing that, he’s seeing much more action and taking his chances, most notably as he netted the winner for United in a crucial and impressive 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
Speaking to MUTV, Martial said: “At the moment, I’m happy, even if I could have done more, scored more goals and made more decisive passes. But I’m happy.
“I think the difference is that last year I didn’t have a good season but, for now, things are going pretty well.
“I’m achieving my objectives and I hope to score a lot more by the end of the season.
“I must continue to keep up good performances for my club and if I’ve got the chance to start over there [for France] I will do the best I can.”
Martial’s impact off the substitutes bench this season has been emphatic, with four goals as a sub already. Last season, he scored four league goals in total.
It’s exemplary of his excellent attitude this season, not complaining, admitting he’d like to start games, and performing fantastically when he is given a chance in the final 20 minutes, usually replacing Marcus Rashford.
There had been rumours of an exit for Martial as recently as two months ago. No United fan wants to see the Frenchman leave now, and that’s likely the same for the coaching staff at Old Trafford.
