Phil Jones to return to Manchester United after England injury

by Marwan Harraz

England international Phil Jones is set to return to Manchester United after suffering an injury during the nation’s match vs Germany.

Jones has featured for the Red Devils in all of their Premier League games so far this season but may have stretched himself a bit too thin.

United will surely rue the loss of another one of their players to injury, particularly as it happened away from the club’s grounds.

Phil has a growing reputation of being an injury prone player since joining Old Trafford from Blackburn as a youngster.

Now at 25 years of age, the centre-back is one of the club’s senior players and many had hoped his injury prone days were behind him.

The versatile defender suffered a thigh injury and was seen with the area strapped up with bandages as his country battled with the World Cup champions.

Risking Jones in a meaningless friendly will irritate Jose Mourinho and it’s likely that Gareth Southgate’s decision would sour the relationship.

Marcos Rojo is the only other centre-back suffering from a long term injury but Phil, Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly have all missed matches this season due to injuries.

Mourinho’s inability to rely on any sort of fit centre-back partnership will surely frustrate the Portuguese manager who many be considering moving on one of the above mentioned names.

Victor Lindelof is still adjusting to his new surroundings and the lack of a true pairing will only hamper or slow down his transitional period.

The extent of Jones’ injury is yet to be confirmed but Jose will surely hope that neither Bailly or Smalling suffer any type of knock in the remaining international break.
