Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku has pinpointed the one player he believes will help the squad catch up with their title rivals.
The Red Devils are currently battling it out with their cross town rivals, with a recent loss against Chelsea opening up the points gap to the league leaders.
Manchester City are eight points away from Jose Mourinho’s United but with only 11 games played so far this season, there’s plenty of time to catch up.
Mourinho’s men are yet to play Pep Guardiola’s squad as well and a win then will surely help tilt the title in United’s favour.
Lukaku certainly believes that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the man who can help the side close the gap to the top of the table once he returns from injury.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Romelu said: “It motivates me really, because he’s [Ibrahimovic] another good player to add to the squad.
“When you face a team like us it’s difficult for opponents. Ibrahimovic coming back will help us chase Manchester City.”
Most fans didn’t predict that Zlatan would even be involved with Manchester United this season after the injury he suffered.
In fact, most critics predicted that the injury the Swede suffered would be career ending and it certainly seemed this way after Mourinho allowed the player’s contract to expire.
Eventually though, the former PSG man did re-sign for the Red Devils and has worked his way towards full fitness.
Expectations are that the striker will feature for his side during the busy Christmas period and his return couldn’t have been better timed.
Whether he features alongside Lukaku or as an alternative to the Belgian is yet to be seen but so long as the goals are flowing, no one will really care.
