Jose Mourinho will look to reunite with Chelsea player Willian in January.
The Express suggest that Manchester United could offer Willian a way out of Stamford Bridge, with the forward suffering from a lack of game time so far this season.
With the World Cup coming up in June 2018, Willian is competing with Liverpool forward Philippe Coutinho for a starting spot in Brazil’s side. He’ll never be able to do that if he plays as little as he is currently at Stamford Bridge.
Having been a key player under Mourinho, Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 systems rarely have a place for Willian.
Mourinho took one of his previous favoured players, Nemanja Matic, from his old club last summer, signing the Serbian for around £35million. He has been a revelatory success at Old Trafford, becoming part of the spine of the team and settling immediately.
United’s chances of signing Willian may be boosted if Chelsea can seal a deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Lucas Moura, who was heavily linked to United many years ago when he elected to join PSG instead.
That may see Willian convinced that he’ll not get sufficient game time and make him look to Mourinho for an exit.
United may need more options in January, with Marouane Fellaini heavily linked to Turkish side Besiktas in recent weeks. His contract runs out at the end of the season, and he’ll be permitted to talk with other clubs in January. United May look to get some kind of transfer fee by letting him join Besiktas early, for around £8m.
