Matteo Darmian faced the wrath of Manchester United fans after his poor display vs Basel in the Champions League as Jose Mourinho’s men lost 1-0 late in the game.
The Italian international proved just why Antonio Valencia is the club’s first choice right-back with a performance to forget.
Darmian has been mostly used as a utility player since the start of Mourinho’s reign and has failed to truly nail down any position on the pitch.
Featuring on either flank, Matteo has failed to impress both fans and Jose, sparking rumours of the former Torino man returning to his home country.
If the Portuguese manager is listening in to fans’ reactions, then one would assume that the full-back is definitely out of the club as soon as possible.
I prefer to see Shaw fail than Blind and Darmian continuously embarrass themselves at LB

Absolutely no surprise the goal comes down United's right. Basel should've been targeting Darmian from the start. He's an utter liability. #mufc

Deserve that for their second half performance. Darmian not a Manchester United Player

Having Darmian and Blind as our fullbacks is an insult to football

Darmian being first choice for Italy sums up why that country is in crisis.

United’s full-back positions have been a problem area for a few season’s now, one area of the pitch that hasn’t truly been addressed by any of the manager’s who’ve taken charge of the club.
The depth in those positions in particular are more worrying with Darmian and Daley Blind putting in horribly average performances consistently.
Whether Matteo wishes to remain at the club or not, one must feel as though Mourinho has already made his mind up on the player.
Since arriving at Old Trafford, he’s never truly shown why he’s Italy’s first choice right-back and fans may have finally had enough.
