Mesut Ozil has reportedly told Turkish side Fenerbahce that he’s likely to join Manchester United next summer.

Sabah [h/t Sport Witness] claim that Ozil has spoken to Fenerbahce, with his contract at Arsenal set to expire at the end of the season.

But they suggest the German international has rejected, with a desire to stay in England.

Sabah quote Ozil as saying: “Thanks for your offer but I really want to stay in the Premier League. Manchester United have a huge offer for me, I’ll probably be transferred there.”

Ozil has been regularly linked to Man United in recent months due to his past with manager Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese utilised Ozil as a key player while at Real Madrid before he left to join Arsenal.

Sport Witness claim Sabah are likely ‘paraphrasing’ Ozil’s words. The sentiment, though, is clear: that United want Ozil, and have offered a lot to bring him to the club.

Like Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2016, Ozil would be moving to Old Trafford on a free transfer, meaning his wages could be hugely boosted compared to what he currently earns at Arsenal.

Armenian attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has disappointed in recent weeks, despite starting the season in relatively good form. That may convince Mourinho to let him leave the club and replace him with Ozil.

United haven’t signed a player from the Gunners since Robin van Persie joined for £24million and led the Reds to their 20th Premier League title.
