Manchester United legend Lou Macari has warned his former club that their next three fixtures could prove to be crucial to their title challenge.
The Red Devils are currently five points away from league leaders Manchester City but the Sky Blues have a game in hand vs Huddersfield.
The Premier League newcomers famously beat Jose Mourinho’s side 2-1 at their own home ground but Macari believes that a similar performance is unlikely.
City have been in tremendous form this season and are currently unbeaten in the league, making United’s bright start to the campaign look minuscular.
Mourinho and his men face Watford and Arsenal away from home before battling with CSKA Moscow in the Champions league over the next three fixtures, all coming in the span of seven busy days.
Speaking to MUTV, Lou said: “Three wins in the next seven days is vital. When you are eight points behind, now five, then you can’t afford to drop too many points.
“We all take the view that they are not going to drop many. People are hoping that they drop a few at Huddersfield, but I don’t think they will drop too many from a possible nine.
“And we can’t afford to drop many either.”
Watford have proven to be difficult opponents to Manchester United in the past and Jose will be hoping to avoid previous repeats.
Arsenal are seven points away from United but currently have a game in hand meaning should they win the match then beat the Red Devils, they’ll cut the gap to a single point.
CSKA Moscow however, face the unlikely challenge of knocking Mourinho out of the Champions League but will need plenty of luck to do so.
The Russian side need to beat their opponents by a huge number of goals and hope that Basel lose to Benfica, who haven’t won a single point so far in an embarrassing campaign for the Portuguese team.
