Guillem Balague: Manchester United will make another bid for Antoine Griezmann

by Leo Nieboer

Spanish football expert Guile Balague has insisted that Antoine Griezmann will leave Atletico Madrid in the summer and most likely attract another bid from Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho came close to securing Griezmann’s services back in June but the Frenchman decided to remain loyal to Diego Simeone after Atletico’s transfer bam was upheld.

The forward’s relationship with the club has reached breaking point this season, however, and his agent recently confirmed that he would find a new club sooner rather than later, with Man United, Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain all reportedly interested.

And Balague has made it clear that Griezmann will have plenty of options to consider next summer – including an offer from United after they shelved their interest in the 26-year-old earlier this year.

“There are lots of options for Griezmann,” he said. “Add PSG to that as well, but they will have to sell players before they do that. He will play with the idea of being with either of them and he knows they both want him.

“It will be a difficult choice to make but I feel that having said no to a huge offer from Manchester United in the summer, they will have to come back with the same kind of offer, with the same promise, with the same flirting from Jose Mourinho, conversations on the phone as has happened, to convince him to go there instead of Barcelona, where he will play next to the likes of Messi.

“It’s a great choice to have. I am convinced everybody realises that Griezmann has to move on.”

Make no mistake: this will be one of the leading transfer stories next year. Whether or not he will leave is no longer a matter of concern, and the race is now on for one of the finest forwards in Europe.

At this point, PSG are in the box seat. Balague notes that the French giants will have to sell first before acquiring his services, but if you manage to sign Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in the same transfer window are you really bound to any financial laws?

The club’s Qatari hierarchy will likely ensure the bureaucrats supposedly standing in their way will have too much blood-stained money in their mouths to say anything.

But despite the power and lure of PSG, United are in with a fighting chance of signing Griezmann. They made contact with him last summer, and the prospect of playing in the Premier League under Mourinho and with Paul Pogba – a very good friend of his – may be enough to sway the currently out of form Frenchman.
