Alan Shearer: Manchester United were too quick and clever for Arsenal

by Marwan Harraz

Former Newcastle United hero Alan Shearer was in full praise for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United after their victory vs Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal.

The Red Devils travelled to the Emirates and managed to leave with all three points under their belt having won the incredible game 3-1.

The fiery clash has been hailed as one of the matches of the season due to the end to end action that both teams displayed.

Ultimately though it was United who got the all important win to keep up the pressure on league leaders Manchester City.

Many Arsenal fans believed that Mourinho’s men were lucky to come away with the win but Shearer was only encouraged by what he saw from the Portuguese’s side.

According to Give Me Sport, Alan said: “At times they were too quick, they were too sharp for Arsenal – their pace, their power.

“They went after Arsenal straight away and put them under pressure, wanting to get behind and give them no time on the ball. Like I said, they were too quick for them and too clever for them.

“The one touch football, Arsenal just couldn’t handle it.”

Manchester United were once more efficient in their performance and made up for the lack of possession by focussing on the more important stat that is the scoreline.

Academy product Jesse Lingard managed to score a brace after some neat play from his teammates with Antonio Valencia also finding himself on the scoresheet.

Lingard had often been criticised for his lack of end product from supporters and even his own manager who called for all of United’s attackers to prove their goalscoring instincts.

The Englishman responded to his manager’s call, proving that he can in fact finish off chances just as he can create them.

Jesse was also helped by Mourinho’s decision to play him in his favoured position just behind the two strikers Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku who caused havoc all game long.
