Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has claimed that he would love Mesut Ozil at Old Trafford, hinting that his former club should sign the playmaker.
Ozil is out of contract at the end of the summer and can be signed by foreign clubs starting from the first of January.
English clubs will have to wait patiently for a while after that to be able to sign the German for free, giving other European clubs an advantage.
Jose Mourinho is a known admirer of the Arsenal man, having managed him when the pair were at Real Madrid.
There have been rumours that Mourinho is willing to renew their friendship and Ferdinand is convinced that the decision is as clear as day.
According to The Express, Rio said on BT Sport: “He was amazing at Real Madrid. He’s a different player to what I’ve seen here.
“His pace – he’s deceptively quick. And if you can get that out of him, his ability. He’s a technician and I would take him at Manchester United all-day long.”
Zinedine Zidane is also reportedly interested in Mesut Ozil, sparking rumours that he may return once more to the Spanish capital.
When Ozil initially left Madrid, it was claimed that he never wished to leave, arriving at the Emirates an already unsatisfied player.
With Zidane’s side in need of some serious help to reinvigorate their squad, Mesut may be tempted to return to a club he loved.
However, the player’s relationship with Jose may just see the Portuguese manager snap him up ahead of United’s competitors.
However, Ozil’s transfer to United could possibly mirror Robin Van Persie’s move to Old Trafford, when fans also claimed that an additional striker was not needed but ended up winning the Premier League title.
