Victor Lindelof: I’ve already learnt from Jose Mourinho at Manchester United

Victor Lindelof has admitted life in the Premier League and the pressure of playing for Manchester United is difficult to deal with as a new signing.

The Swede told reporters ahead of Man United’s final UEFA Champions League group game, against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday night at Old Trafford, that he has been helped by everyone at the club to settle into life in Manchester.

Lindelof played very little for the first three months of the season but has had three very solid performances in the last two weeks.

Comparing his experience of playing for Benfica to United, who he joined for £30.7m in the summer, Lindelof said: “The league you play in, the Premier League is a tougher league than in Portugal.

“They are two big clubs, here in Manchester, United is a bigger club, one of the biggest in the world and you have more eyes watching you. That is the biggest difference.”

Lindelof insisted that United, who are second in the Premier League, cannot focus on Sunday’s Manchester derby, against the title favourites City who are eight points ahead at this stage.

“We are all professionals and we are focused on the game tomorrow. We want to win tomorrow. I can only speak for myself but I think all the guys are only focused on tomorrow and after that we focus on the derby game.”

Lindelof’s situation has been handled fantastically by Jose Mourinho, who has eased him in fantastically and is now reaping the rewards of a defender looking more composed and impressive with each game.

The player himself said he could learn from the spell on the touchline.

“Always when you come to a new club, you have to learn. I learn every day. The manager has been very good for me,” Lindelof commented.

“I’m always happy to help the team in any way I can. I’m very pleased to be able to help on the pitch and to get some good results.

“The whole team [has helped me]. We always try and help each other. Everyone has helped me in a lot of ways.”
