Manchester United face off vs Manchester City in a hotly anticipated derby this weekend but will have to do without key man Paul Pogba and Joe Cole believes that it may actually work in Jose Mourinho’s favour.
Paul Pogba got himself sent off for a nasty but unintentional challenge vs Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin in the Red Devils win at the Emirates.
Hugely influential in that match, most supporters hoped to see him replicate that performance against City but will be unable to take to the field.
United are in desperate need of the three points and it’s unlikely that anything short of a win would put any kind of pressure on their fierce rivals.
Former Chelsea man Cole though strangely believes that Mourinho can make better use of his other midfield options in the absence of Pogba.
According to the Daily Star, Joe said: “As crazy as it sounds, it may help Man United. Pogba likes to vacate midfield and go and support the striker.
“I can see Man United scoring by winning a second ball with Herrera and a direct pass to the striker.
“Man City will concede space in behind. It might thicken the midfield up and let them [United] win second balls.”
Jose’s preferred midfield partnership has been his two most recent midfield signings in Pogba and Nemanja Matic who have both hugely impressed since arriving.
Although Paul may have taken a season’s worth of time to get into high gear, Matic has slotted in seamlessly to the team.
Instantly becoming influential, Nemanja’s experience and solidity in midfield has helped taken Manchester United to the next level with improved performances overall from the whole squad.
Unfortunately for the talented pair unbeaten in the league Manchester City are eight points away at the top of the table but United can reduce that gap to five points.
