Manchester United fans praise Nemanja Matic’s performance vs West Brom

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United fans had Nemanja Matic to thank for sneaking past a stubborn West Brom side with a 2-1 win.

The Red Devils travelled to the Hawthorns in search of another win not the road as they hope to somehow catch Manchester City slipping.

Both Jesse Lingard and Romelu Lukaku were on the scoresheet but it was arguably Matic who was more crucial to United’s win.

Composed and reassured in his play, the Serbian singlehandedly runs the team’s engine room with little to no effort.

Fans were quick to praise the player especially due to the lack of help he received from midfield partner Ander Herrera.

Nemanja Matic will probably be happier than anyone that Paul Pogba will be returning for Manchester United’s next match after serving his suspension.

The midfield duo are one of the league’s best pairings in the centre of the park but they’ll certainly be concerned of the lack of depth in the club.

In terms of numbers, one could argue United are set with Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera the squad’s senior players.

Scott McTominay is also an option and should Andreas Pereira and Timothy Fosu-Mensah return from their loan spell next season they’ll be plenty of players competing for the same spots.

However, Fellaini’s contract ends in the summer, Carrick is expected to move into coaching and Herrera is a shadow of the player he was last season.

With just the youth to rely on, Jose Mourinho may be concerned with a gaping hole slowly appearing in United’s midfield.
