Jose Mourinho insists players who featured against Bristol City are unlikely to feature against Leicester City

Jose Mourinho has noted that the players drafted in for Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to Bristol City will not feature at the weekend against Leicester City.

The Portuguese made ten changes from the side that won 2-1 at West Bromwich Albion last Sunday, with only Marcus Rashford keeping his place.

And his second string side, spearheaded by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, produced a truly gutless, blunt-edged display at Ashton Gate and deserved to lose, with Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw the only players who can realistically come out of the game with their heads held high.

Speaking after the game, Mourinho insisted that the players who started at Bristol would not feature at the Kingpower Stadium.

You sense Paul Pogba escapes this threat from Mourinho, yet even the Frenchman’s performance hardly rose above the rest on a night that, on reflection, can only merit an extensive return to the drawing board and, more importantly, a purging of the lackadaisical attitude that hallmarked the defeat to the Championship side.

You can only hope that Mourinho doesn’t take this defeat lightly and brings the hammer down the squad as a whole. The lack of bite and air of arrogance that surrounded United’s performance will suffocate their season if allowed to continue.
