Juan Mata: Manchester United must keep going in crucial period

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United’s Spanish maestro Juan Mata has called on his teammates to keep pushing through the difficult Christmas period.

The Red Devils have had a recent decline in form, getting knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Bristol City and then drawing with Leicester City to all but end any small hope of a title challenge.

With the crucial winter period now in full swing, teams traditionally make or break their seasons at this time and Mata has tried to rally his colleagues.

There’s certainly some bitterness in the United dressing room after the two results particularly due to their similarities.

Bristol and Leicester both scored in the dying embers of the match, crushing the players’ morale but the attacking midfielder has not given up just yet.

According to Belfast Telegraph, Juan said: “You have to keep going and especially in Christmas time.

“You play every two or three days and obviously now we feel frustrated and angry.

“But we need to keep going and, from [Christmas Eve], rest and think about the next game -obviously with the will of finishing the game with a much better feeling.”

Juan Mata‘s brace against Leicester City was one of the few positives to come out of the match and will serve him well in the future.

The tricky playmaker has had his game time limited by the form of players such as Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard.

Although Mkhitaryan has been forgotten about of late, he initially started the season off in fine form, keeping Mata out of the starting XI.

Martial and Rashford’s successes this season has also left little room for him to operate in with Jose Mourinho trusting the two youngsters to deliver.

Both players have also recently begun to lose form and after Juan’s performance vs Leicester, it may convince Mourinho to play the experienced player some more.
