Italian giants into Milan are interested in signing Manchester United forward Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a deal which could see Joao Mario included.
It looks like a possibility that would benefit both sides, with Mkhitaryan falling down the pecking order under at Man United under Jose Mourinho. He started the season in good form, contributing five assists in the first few games, but his displays dropped significantly since the end of September and the Armenian is yet to recover.
He’s looked lacklustre, hasn’t been able to pull off the final ball, looked far less inventive and contributed very little in the last few months. Mourinho confirmed he’d been dropped due to his performances in November. He started his first game in two months recently, and has been involved a bit more, with Mourinho possibly handing him his last chance to prove himself, but he’s not impressed.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport claim that Inter are interested in bringing Mkhitaryan in to strengthen their attacking options, a rumour that’s been developing in the last few weeks.
They also claim, however, as others have done previously, that Portuguese midfielder Joao Mario could be transferred the other way in a rare player-swap deal.
It happens very little in elite football, two players swapping clubs, even if a transfer fee is also involved, but it would be.a good solution to United and Inter’s problems. Mourinho needs to get rid of Mkhitaryan after poor form and failing to show consistency ever since joining in the summer of 2016 from Borussia Dortmund.
Inter boss Luciano Spaletti needs more attacking options, having reportedly also considered FC Barcelona’s Gerard Deulofeu. They’ve done well so far this season, sitting third in Serie A with former-United target Ivan Perisic doing fantastically under Spaletti. Seven points off leaders Napoli, a bit of additional quality is needed and Spaletti clearly thinks Mkhitaryan could provide that.
