Jesse Lingard scored a truly sumptuous goal to put Manchester United on course for the FA Cup fourth round against Derby County on Friday night.
Jose Mourinho’s men had gone close to breaking the deadlock, with Marcus Rashford striking the post twice and Paul Pogba missing an open goal, and it looked as if the tie was heading for a replay.
But up stepped Lingard once again, powering home a swerving, ferocious volley into the top right hand corner to claim his eighth goal in ten games.
Here is a video of the Englishman’s ripsnorter and the following celebrations.

Lingard used to frustrate supporters by scoring goals at times when United needed them, but only once every few months.
Over the summer, however, he has developed a proclivity for asserting himself with big – and usually superb – goals over a stretch of time. For the first time in his career he is not merely a component of a wider framework but indeed the enforcer, the decider, the front page man – and he looks to be relishing every minute of it.
