The Mirror’s chief sports writer Andy Dunn has claimed that Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho has attacked Chelsea’s Antonio Conte due to being under appreciated.
The pair of managers have been in the spotlight recently due to their comments about each other with some people even calling for the FA to get involved.
Mourinho’s comments about acting like a clown didn’t sit well with Conte despite the United boss not name dropping anyone in particular.
The Italian manager fired back but Jose responded by saying he’d never be suspended for match-fixing, alluding to the Chelsea boss’ history.
Antonio has since called the Portuguese manager a little man and a fake but Dunn believes this all stems from a deeper issue than the two coaches’ history.
According to Sky Sports, Andy said: “The reason why Mourinho cannot let anything lie is that, even with his incredible record – 25 trophies – he thinks he’s underappreciated, undervalued and people do not acknowledge how great a manager he’s been.
“That doesn’t only apply to his the media but also to his peers, that’s reflected by the way he has a go at them – Conte’s comments about him are incredibly disparaging.
“Some of it may come down to the fact he wasn’t a player, that will always be a little chip on his shoulder.”
Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson also had his fair share of scuffles with Premier League rival managers and it’s no surprise to see Jose Mourinho take on Antonio Conte.
His former side Chelsea are currently breathing down United’s neck, attempting to overtake them and possibly drop Mourinho’s side out of the Champions League spots.
Such a feat would represent disaster for the Red Devils having started the campaign so well and remaining in second for much of the season.
It appears as though Jose is trying to play mind games with Antonio and it would seem as though the current Blues boss has failed the test.
Conte took the Portuguese’s bait willingly and is currently looking worse and worse the more the ‘fight’ continues, with the Italian appearing to lose control.
