Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho explained to the press why academy product Jesse Lingard is in fine form after the Derby win.
United beat the Championship side 2-0 in the FA Cup with the England international scoring the opener in the last few moments of the game.
Romelu Lukaku grabbed the second goal but it was Lingard who received all the praise as he continues his purple patch of games.
The 25 year old has had to deal with his fair share of critics this season but has silenced them all with his recent performances and fans will be shocked should he not be joining England for the World Cup in Russia.
Mourinho has also praised Jesse’s displays of late but believes he knows just why the versatile attacker is looking unstoppable in recent matches.
According to Sky Sports, Jose said: “It [Jesse Lingard‘s goal] was an amazing goal. I think he is comfortable in the positions he plays. I think he is improving with the progressive style of the team.
“The team is playing progressively in a different way which makes him feel like a fish in the water and he is in this moment where everything goes right for him.”
Jesse Lingard has managed to contribute 11 goals and five assists in 27 appearances for Manchester United this season, an impressive feat considering his position.
Capable of featuring on either wing and even occasionally as a wing-back, the Englishman has flourished in his preferred position as an attacking midfielder.
Blessed with pace, quick feet and vision, Lingard offers more than the typical playmaker does in most teams and systems.
As an academy graduate, he already has a special place in fans’ hearts, although some sections criticised him for his poor performances earlier in the season.
By adding goals to his game, Jesse is quickly becoming a more complete player and must keep up this consistency if he wishes to be considered a true great of the game.
