Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has explained why his players celebrated so passionately after beating Derby 2-0 in the FA Cup.
The Championship side travelled to Old Trafford for the Red Devils first home game in 2018 but proved to be stubborn opposition.
It wasn’t until the last few moments of the fiercely fought match that Jesse Lingard popped up with the opener, with only a stunning goal capable of unlocking Derby’s defence.
Romelu Lukaku, who was criticised for not celebrating his goals in recent matches, managed to grab United’s second to wrap up the tie and send the club into the next round of England’s most prestigious cup competition.
Mourinho though decided to be open with the press and explain just why the players were so happy to win, admitting it wasn’t just due to the result.
According to Manchester Evening News, Jose said: “Do you want the truth? If we have a replay we don’t go to Dubai and everybody wants to go, everybody wants to go.
“Did you see the players celebrating the second goal? Everyone wants to have a good week of good training, good facilities in the sun, but now we still depend on Stoke result. Because if Stoke gets a draw we don’t go to Dubai.
“When do we go? We go Monday but if they get a draw we don’t go.”
Warm weather training is nothing new to Manchester United or other Premier League clubs for that matter with many managers opting to take their squads away from their current environment in the hopes of reinvigorating them after the exhausting winter period.
England doesn’t experience a winter break in much the same way other top European leagues do and so it’s no surprise that players look forward to warm weather training so eagerly.
United are currently 15 points behind league leaders and fierce rivals Manchester City and so any possible way that could potentially help the club close that gap should be exploited by Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese manager himself has also been in the limelight from the press and so could do with a little time away from it all as well.
