Barcelona remain favourites to sign Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann next summer despite signing Philipe Coutinho from Liverpool this month, according to reports.
Manchester United were on the verge of securing his services last summer but the Frenchman made a last minute U-turn, while Jose Mourinho turned his attention towards signing a traditional No.9 instead.
Griezmann’s agent confirmed earlier this season that he would leave at the end of the current campaign, with Barcelona serving as the forward’s preferred destination.
Their capture of Coutinho, on the face of it, places Man United in the driving seat to sign him, but ESPN‘s Rob Dawson has revealed that Ernesto Valverde remains keen on adding him to his squad.
Griezmann and his wife, Erika Choperena, have reservations over moving their young family to Manchester and would prefer to stay in Spain. The 26-year-old has expressed a desire to play in the Premier League before but a move to Barcelona, a club he deeply admires, would be the ideal next step in his eyes.
El Larguero has claimed that the La Liga leaders will look to activate Griezmann’s €100m release clause in the summer and have already established ‘advanced contact’ with the Frenchman’s camp.
Mourinho, by the looks of things, will need to look elsewhere for his creative spark when June comes around.
