Manchester United confirm James Wilson has joined Sheffield United on loan

Manchester United have confirmed that James Wilson will join Sheffield United on loan for the remainder of the 2017/18 season.

The youngster netted a brace on his debut back in May 2014 and made 17 appearances during Louis van Gaal‘s first season in charge at Old Trafford.

Wilson has previously had spells on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion and Derby County, picking up a cruciate injury just two months into his time with the Rams in October 2016.

But having fully recovered and insisting he would join a club on loan in January, Wilson will join up with the Blades – currently one point off the playoff spots – for the second half of the season.

The Englishman has endured a difficult couple of years, marred by injuries and a descent down the pecking order at Old Trafford, but he finds himself at the ideal club to receive some minutes and reignite his career.

Under manager Chris Wilder he will be given opportunities to add another goalscoring dimension to the side’s attack and will, no doubt, draw motivation from the passionate Brammal Lane crowd, with the incentive of playing at Wembley in May for a place in the Premier League lingering tantalisingly on the horizon.
