Manchester United target Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos has ruled out a January move away from Napoli but revealed he would listen to offers over the summer.
And the 54-year-old has been monitoring Jorginho, a central component of Napoli’s impressive campaign this season, as a potential replacement for the current Man United skipper.
Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, Santos noted that, while a January move was off the table, Jorginho could indeed agree to a deal elsewhere over the summer.
“He is currently in Brazil and will return to Italy this weekend,” he said. “When it comes to the January transfer window, we’re not talking about anything.”
“In June, and this is true of all players, we’ll see what offers arrive. From February 1, it all begins again.”
Mourinho appears to have cast a wide net for options in midfield over the summer – Leander Dendoncker, Julian Weigl, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Carlos Soler and Sergej Milinković-Savić are all reported targets – but Jorginho is a player who fits the profile better than most – a militantly disciplined defensive midfielder with an acute eye for driving play forward.
United have been at their best this season when Nemanja Matic has moved the ball through the lines, bringing Paul Pogba and others into the game further forward, and Jorginho’s presence on the pitch would certainly help foster that particular dynamic.
